Traditional built-up felt roofs are one of the most economical ways to meet your flat roof requirements. Roofing felt comprises two elements: the waterproofing agent – its purpose being self-explanatory and the carrier – which supports the waterproofing agent. The waterproofing agents are usually bitumen, whereas the carriers are polyester.

The advances in modern technology have led to high-performance felts that incorporate polyester membranes. This gives excellent strength and durability and prolongs the expected lifespan of the flat roof.

The traditional method of laying a felt roof is to build it up in layers (usually three) that are bonded together using heated bitumen. The flat roof is then completed with reflective mineral spa chippings, pre-bonded to the upper surface of the final layer of felt.
